.280 Ackley Improved 140 Grain Berger VLD-Hā The primary difference between the standard .280 Rem. and the .280 Ackley Improved is the steeper 40 degree, which lengthens the case body and allows for about 5 percent more powder capacity.Ā When P.O. Ackley gave the .280 RemingtonĀ a steep 40-degree shoulder and straightened out most of the cartridge caseās body taper, he likely knew he was on to something special. However, itās doubtful he anticipated that more than a half-century later, his .280 Ackley Improved cartridge would blossom into a favorite of savvy open-country hunters across the West.
Decades ahead of his time in cartridge design, Ackley became a household name for his work, at least among cartridge enthusiasts. Heād take a typical factory-designed cartridge, reduce the amount of taper in the body of the case, and increase the shoulder angle aggressively. These modifications resulted in added capacity, which increased velocity, and less case stretch, which resulted in longer case life. The .280 AIās additional case capacity does good things, but it doesnāt change laws of physics. With equal barrel lengths, the Ackley Improved version gets you about 100 additional fps of velocity with a 140-grain bullet and a 24-inch barrel.
Choice Ammunition, and our 100% Hand-Loading techniques- produce a round of ammunition for the .280 Ackley Improved that is demanded in big game hunting. Accuracy, consistency and dependability are crucial at that final moments of your hunt. Choice Ammunition takes this responsibility seriously by meticulously weighing each powder charge with our proprietary formulas and temperature insensitive powders, seating the bullet at the exact length for optimal performance and test firing each and every lot of ammunition at an average of 500% over industry average. We have no high speed production machines- only passionate and dedicated load technicians pulling each and every handle, producing one round of ammunition at a time.Ā
The Bullet-
The Berger VLDĀ design incorporates a sharp nose that allows the bullet to penetrate 2ā³ to 3ā³ before it starts to expand. After the initial expansion, the bullet will shed between 40% and 85% of its weight as shrapnel into the surrounding tissue (internal organs). The combination between the shrapnel and the hydrostatic shock produces a massive wound cavity within the vital area that will be 13ā³ ā 15ā³ long. This massive wound cavity results in the animal dropping fast since most go into shock after such a tremendous blow. Those animals that donāt go down immediately will soon succumb to blood pressure loss and/or organ failure producing a quick ethical kill.

Through an exclusive bonding process that eliminates voids in the bullet core, AccuBond couples Noslerās proven copper-alloy jacket with its special lead-alloy core. The result is a bullet that flies true, penetrates deep and retains its weight, without causing extensive barrel fouling. The unique white polymer tip resists deforming and initiates expansion on impact. Noslerās Solid Base at the rear of the bullet acts as a platform for large diameter mushrooms.

The Bullet-Ā
The Long-Range X Bullet (LRX) line is designed after the best-selling Tipped Triple-Shock X Bullet, the LRX bullet design increases Ballistic Coefficient values by increasing ogive and boat tail lengths to improve the bulletsā long-range ballistic performance. For the hunter who is confident in long-range hunting, the LRX will fill the niche of this new hunting craze. LRX bullets will continue to be manufactured with the proven 100-percent copper, lead-free bodies. The bulletās polymer tip initiates expansion, causing the nose cavity to open instantly on contact doubling the bulletās original diameter while creating four cutting petals that wreak extensive internal damage. Exceptional performance means clean, quick kill.

The Bullet-
The Heat Shield tip of the Hornady ELD-X bullet defies the effects of aerodynamic heating and retains its shape to provide a perfect meplat (tip) that is always the same shape. A streamlined secant ogive with optimum boattail design, plus the highly concentric AMP bullet jackets, combined with the patent pending Heat Shield tip creates a supremely accurate, high BC match bullet. ELD-Match bullet BCs are measured with Doppler radar and corrected to standard atmospheric conditions. With high velocity, 0-400 yard impact, the bullet continually expands throughout its penetration path. The thick shank of the jacket and high Interlock ring keep the core and jacket together providing 50-60% weight retention. Upon low velocity, 400+ yard impacts, the Heat Shield tip drives backward into the bullet to initiate expansion. Exhibiting conventional expansion with a large mushroom and 85-90% retained weight the bullet provides deep penetration and large wound cavities.

In these challenging times in our industry, things change quickly. One day, we are well stocked up on an item, and the next day, we could be out. We are doing everything possible to hand-load our ammunition and get products shipped in a timely manner, but we cannot simply turn machines up like the āfactoriesā do! Yet, we are resourceful in our ways- and usually have ammunition when others do not.
We also strive to provide tremendous customer service. We try to answer all office calls- and actually prefer calls over emails or social media. After your order, our in-stock items typically ship within 24 hours!
From time to time- we do offer industry updates, special promotions, or announcements of new products. If you care to register with us below, we will be sure to include you in these email updates. (We do not share our list with others- or inundate you with emails all the time).
