.204 Ruger 32 Grain Hornady V-Max~ The .204 Ruger is a centerfire rifle cartridge developed by Ruger. in 2004. At the time of its introduction, the .204 Ruger was the second highest velocity commercially produced ammunition and the only centerfire cartridge produced commercially for bullets of .204 inch/5 mm caliber. The 204 Ruger was developed from the .222 Remington Magnum, which has the second largest case capacity in the family that began with the .222 Remington. The .204 Ruger was intended primarily for varmint rifles, which require bullets with flat trajectories but not much mass or kinetic energy. The .204 was “splitting the difference” between the popular .224 varmint rounds such as the .220 Swift and .22-250 Remington, and the tiny .172 caliber rounds such as the .17 Remington and the .17 HMR. The resulting cartridge provides somewhat higher velocities than any of these, giving a maximum point blank range of more than 270 yards (250 m).Hornady’s V-Max Bullets feature a polymer tip which enhances accuracy and promotes devastating expansion. The tip raises the ballistic coefficient for faster velocity and helps to stabilize the bullet in flight. It also acts as a wedge, initiating bullet expansion.
Choice Ammunition manufactures the .204 Ruger in several bullet selections, all which are 100% hand-loaded for superior performance, reliability and accuracy over “factory” produced rounds.
Bullet: The V-Max bullet, with its combination of proven materials, innovative design and streamlined profile, the Hornady V-MAX represents the pinnacle of what a specialized varmint bullet can achieve, offering straight-line trajectories, enhanced accuracy, dramatic expansion and explosive fragmentation at a wide range of distances and velocities. The industry’s leading varmint bullet with polymer tip and streamlined design results in flat trajectories. The concentricity of the match grade AMP bullet jacket provides maximum accuracy at all ranges as well as explosive expansion, even at velocities as low as 1600 fps.

Nosler’s Varmint Ballistic Tip Bullets are designed for violent expansion upon impact. The bullet is tipped with a polycarbonate tip which rapidly drives back forcing the thin jacket to expand and fragment. The heavy base prevents deformation during firing and the boat-tail design increases the ballistic efficiency of the bullet.

Choice Ammunition has taken our 100% hand-loading techniques and produce an extremely accurate, highly dependable round for the .204 in this load. Our loading tolerances are only matched by passionate hand-loaders in their own loading rooms. Consistent seating depths, powder charges and proprietary formulas of Choice Ammunition, make this 32 grain Nosler Varmageddon round the best you can buy on the commercial market today.
The Bullet:
Made with a lead-alloy core, Nosler Varmageddon bullets feature an extremely thin jacket at the tip that gets and progressively thicker towards the base.
The bullet also features a flat base design. This does indeed slightly lower the ballistic coefficient of the bullet when compared to a bullet with a boat-tail. However, Nosler’s reasoning was that most predators and varmints are shot at short to moderate ranges where the difference in BC was not enough to make a difference.

.223 REMINGTON 40 grain Hornady V-Max Bullets feature a polymer tip which enhances accuracy and promotes devastating expansion. The tip raises the ballistic coefficient for faster velocity and helps to stabilize the bullet in flight. It also acts as a wedge, initiating bullet expansion.
The ideal combination of accuracy, expansion, and fragmentation.
With its combination of proven materials, innovative design and streamlined profile, the Hornady V-MAX represent the pinnacle of what a specialized varmint bullet can achieve, offering straight-line trajectories, enhanced accuracy, dramatic expansion and explosive fragmentation at a wide range of distances and velocities.
The industry’s leading varmint bullet with polymer tip and streamlined design results in flat trajectories. The concentricity of the match grade AMP® bullet jacket provides maximum accuracy at all ranges as well as explosive expansion, even at velocities as low as 1600 fps.
The secret to the explosive terminal performance of the V-Max® is a hollow cavity resting between the tip’s shaft and the body of the bullet. Upon impact, the hard shaft builds up speed and energy before driving into the core, causing the entire package to rapidly expand to the point of violent fragmentation, even at low terminal velocities.
Hornady combines the sharp, pointed polymer tip with the most aerodynamic profile for a high ballistic coefficient. The V-MAX® profile also provides the maximum bearing surface for added in-flight stability.
The swaging process allows the precise formation of the core up and around the tip, with a cavity under the tip’s stem. This allows the tip to build up energy before smashing into the core, causing dramatic fragmentation of the core and jacket.
Utilizing the proper base design provides incredible in-flight stability for long-range shooting.

.223 Remington 50 Grain Barnes Varmin-a-tor- The .223 Remington is a sporting cartridge with the same external dimensions as the 5.56x45mm NATO military cartridge. It is loaded with a .224-inch diameter jacketed bullet, with weights ranging from roughly 40 to 90 grains (the 55-grain being the most popular). Pressure is the primary difference separating the .223 Remington and 5.56x45mm. The .223s are loaded to lower pressures and velocities compared to 5.56mm. Due to its lower pressure, you can safely fire .223 Rem. ammunition in a 5.56mm chambered gun; however, the same cannot be said in reverse.
The . 223 (and the AR-15 rifles that fire them) are not ‘weapons of war’. Both the cartridge and the rifle are very popular for hunting and home defense use. .223 is a common caliber for bolt action and single-shot rifles in addition to semi-autos. Barrel length helps determine a specific cartridge’s muzzle velocity. A longer barrel typically yields a greater muzzle velocity, while a short barrel yields a lower one. The first AR-15 rifles used a barrel length of 20″. In the case of the .223 Remington (M193), ammunition loses or gains about 25.7 ft/sec for each inch of barrel length, while 5.56×45 mm NATO (M855) loses or gains 30.3 ft/sec per inch of barrel length.
Choice Ammunition has taken our 100% hand-loading techniques and produce an extremely accurate, highly dependable round for the .223 Remington in this load. Hard-hitting and deep-penetrating, the GMX bullet combines monolithic construction with pioneering ballistic design to meet the need for a premium, non-traditional bullet. Tougher than pure copper, the mono-metal copper alloy has been proven to shoot cleaner, foul less, and deliver consistent, even pressure curves. The tough alloy material routinely retains 95% or more of its original weight and expands up to 1.5 times its original diameter.
Featuring a long, sleek profile with cannelures, the design reduces overall bearing surface and drag, while achieving some of the highest ballistic coefficients from monolithic, non-traditional bullets. Initiating expansion upon impact, the hard polymer tip drives into the hollow cavity at the front of the bullet, creating a mushroom-style projectile as it travels through the animal. Fully California compatible and appropriate for use in areas requiring the use of non-traditional bullets, GMX is ideal for any sized game, from antelope to moose.

Speer created its first bullet more than 70 years ago, and today, the company still manufactures superior components, such as Speer TNT Varmint Bullets. Specific to varmint shooting, these bullets are a cut above the rest.
TNT gives you what you want most-superior on-game performance. Starting with TNT’s thin precision jacket, Speer added internal fluting and a dead-soft lead core to ensure complete bullet disruption. Speer finishes the forming with a long ogive and a small hollow point. This gives you the ballistic coefficients needed for long shots. In fact, TNT’s coefficients rival those of similar boat tail bullets. In a little over ten years, TNT has become a best seller. Why? Great accuracy and impressive terminal performance. These TNT Bullets are explosive and accurate. TNT gives you what you want most—superior on-game performance. A thin precision jacket and internal fluting ensures complete bullet disruption. Because of its great accuracy and impressive terminal performance, TNT has become one of Speer Bullets’ hottest sellers.
