  • .44 Magnum 200 Grain Hornady XTPElmer Keith, championed the concept of higher powered big-bore revolvers with Smith & Wesson and Remington Arms, eventually leading to the development of the .357, .41, and .44 Magnums. Keith’s suggested designation for the proposed .44 caliber round was the “.44 Special Magnum,” but when Remington Arms developed the cartridge they chose to name it the .44 Remington Magnum. Nonetheless, the new cartridge was developed directly from the .44 Special design by simply lengthening the older case by .125 inch. Remington’s stated rationale for the making of this change was to preclude higher pressured Magnum loads from being chambered in .44 Special revolvers.

    CONTROLLED EXPANSION

    Precise serrations divide the XTP® into symmetrical sections, strategically weakening the jacket and initiating controlled expansion even at low velocities.

    NO EXPOSED LEAD

    The gilding metal jacket protects the nose of the bullet, so the hollow cavity functions properly on impact and ensures proper feeding in semi-automatics.

    SWAGED CORE

    Total uniformity of core density ensures balanced expansion as well as in-flight stability.

    DRAWN GILDING METAL JACKET

    Expansion is controlled by varying jacket thickness down the length of the XTP, providing a definite advantage over plated bullets which have a uniform jacket thickness over the entire bullet.

After its introduction, it was quickly adopted for carbines and rifles. Despite the “.44” designation, guns chambered for the .44 Magnum round, and its parent, the .44 Special, use 0.429 in (10.9 mm) diameter bullets.

    The .44 Magnum is based on a lengthened .44 Special case, loaded to higher pressures for greater velocity (and thus, energy). The .44 Magnum has since been eclipsed in power by the .454 Casull, and most recently by the .460 S&W Magnum and .500 S&W Magnum, among others; nevertheless, it has remained one of the most popular commercial large-bore magnum cartridges. When loaded to its maximum and with heavy, deeply penetrating bullets, the .44 Magnum cartridge is suitable for short-range hunting of all North American game—though at the cost of heavy recoil and muzzle flash when fired in handguns, less so in carbines and rifles.

  • 44 Magnum 240 Grain Semi-Wadcutter(SWC)– Grain Semi-Wadcutter (SWC)~ A bullet design that used to rule the roost but today is certainly underutilized is the semi wadcutter. The semiwadcutter is something of a middle ground between hard bullets such as full metal jacket and hard-cast rounds and softer and expanding rounds such as soft-cast and hollow point rounds.A Semi-Wadcutter bullet perfect for target shooting and plinking. The nose and sharp should allow the bullet to punch a clean hole through paper targets making scoring simple and precise.
