.44 Remington Magnum 300 Grain WFN Hi-Tek Coated “Choice Bear Defense” – The .44 Remington Magnum, or simply.44 Magnum (10.9×33mmR), and frequently .44 Mag, is a rimmed, large-bore cartridge originally designed for revolvers. After its introduction, it was quickly adopted for carbines and rifles. Despite the “.44” designation, guns chambered for the .44 Magnum round, and its parent, the .44 Special, use 0.429 in (10.9 mm) diameter bullets.

The .44 Magnum is based on a lengthened .44 Special case, loaded to higher pressures for greater velocity (and thus, energy). The .44 Magnum has since been eclipsed in power by the .454 Casull, and most recently by the .460 S&W Magnum and .500 S&W Magnum, among others; nevertheless, it has remained one of the most popular commercial large-bore magnum cartridges. When loaded to its maximum and with heavy, deeply penetrating bullets, the .44 Magnum cartridge is suitable for short-range hunting of all North American game—though at the cost of heavy recoil and muzzle flash when fired in handguns, less so in carbines and rifles.

Elmer Keith, one of the most famous and popular firearms related authors at the time, developed a number of classical heavy handloads for the .44 Special; many are still highly regarded today. He also championed the concept of higher powered big-bore revolvers with Smith & Wesson and Remington Arms, eventually leading to the development of the .357.41, and .44 Magnums. Keith’s suggested designation for the proposed .44 caliber round was the “.44 Special Magnum,” but when Remington Arms developed the cartridge they chose to name it the .44 Remington Magnum. Nonetheless, the new cartridge was developed directly from the .44 Special design by simply lengthening the older case by .125 inch.

We feel our 100% hand-loading techniques and proprietary formulas produce the most reliable, consistent and accurate round on the commercial market today. Choice Ammunition emulates the same process passionate loaders do in their own loading rooms across the country. Hand-Loaded ammunition simply performs better than “factory” ammunition for a number of reasons. The Bullet~

We use a unique heat-set “HI-TEK Supercoat” manufactured in Australia, where it has been used for more than 20 years. The Hi-Tek Supercoat Bullet Coating totally encapsulates the lead projectiles. Our bullets are “Hard-Cast.” Hard cast bullets are just that: harder. We use a 92% Lead/6% Antimony/2% Tin bullet alloy for casting all bullets.

Hi-Tek Supercoat bullets are safe to shoot indoors.  The coating gives off no toxic out-gassing or particulate matter when fired. The coating is absolutely nonabrasive and contains no PTFE or MOLY. There is no wax lube and it minimizes your exposure to lead. The end result is cleaner air, cleaner hands, cleaner equipment and cleaner guns!
Check out a video of the Hi-Tek coating process here and see why you might want us to do it for you!!
    • Our bullets greatly reduce the amount of smoke normally associated with cast bullets
    • Lead fouling of the bore is drastically reduced or in most cases, eliminated completely
    • Our coating gives off no toxins or particulate matter when fired
    • Is 100% non abrasive and contains no PTFE or MOLY

    The Bullet:

Hornady® FTX® bullets revolutionized lever gun ballistics, creating a new level of performance for these popular firearms. Lever gun enthusiasts can now harness the accuracy, power and long-range performance of a tipped bullet that’s safe to load in tubular magazines.

Hornady® offers the same Flex Tip® technology for handguns that revolutionized lever guns. Typical hollow point pistol bullets deliver good performance at modest velocities, but have a tendency to expand too quickly and sacrifice penetration at the higher velocities achieved with lever action guns.

  • .44 Magnum 240 Grain Hornady XTPElmer Keith, championed the concept of higher powered big-bore revolvers with Smith & Wesson and Remington Arms, eventually leading to the development of the .357, .41, and .44 Magnums. Remington’s stated rationale for the making of this change was to preclude higher pressured Magnum loads from being chambered in .44 Special revolvers.

    The Bullet-

Hornady XTP Bullets feature a performance-improved point that has 6 precise folds to divide the bullet into symmetrical sections and initiate controlled expansion at low velocities while not fragmenting at higher velocities. They expand reliably at a wide range of velocities for a deep, terminal penetration with every shot.

Designed for hunting, self-defense and law enforcement applications, the XTP bullet demonstrates the kind of accuracy that led many competitive shooters to adopt it. Reliable performance makes the XTP the most popular handgun bullet for both target shooters and hunters. But it’s the stopping power of the XTP bullet that has truly built its world-class reputation. From the onset, XTP bullets were specifically designed to expand reliably at a wide range of handgun velocities to deliver deep penetration with every shot.

    Product Features
    CONTROLLED EXPANSION
Precise serrations divide the XTP® into symmetrical sections, strategically weakening the jacket and initiating controlled expansion even at low velocities.
    NO EXPOSED LEAD
The gilding metal jacket protects the nose of the bullet, so the hollow cavity functions properly on impact and ensures proper feeding in semi-automatics.
    SWAGED CORE
Total uniformity of core density ensures balanced expansion as well as in-flight stability.
    DRAWN GILDING METAL JACKET
Expansion is controlled by varying jacket thickness down the length of the XTP, providing a definite advantage over plated bullets which have a uniform jacket thickness over the entire bullet.
These high-performance rounds provide excellent reliability, consistency, accuracy, penetration and stopping power for personal protection.

All brass is carefully selected to ensure it meets our unusually high standards for reliable feeding, corrosion resistance, proper hardness and the ability to withstand maximum chamber pressures.

Powders in each cartridge are loaded to ensure optimal pressure, velocity and consistency from lot to lot. Each primer is matched to individual loads and specifically selected for their ability to quickly, completely, and reliably ignite the powder charge.
