    .300 Savage Lead-Free Round in a 150 Grain Barnes TTSX- The .300 Savage cartridge is a rimless, .30 caliberriflecartridge developed by Savage Arms in 1920. It was designed to replace the less powerful .303 Savage in their popular Savage Model 1899 hammerless lever-action rifle, which they started to produce again as Model 99, as well as the new Savage Model 1920 bolt-action rifle. Despite having a short case in order to fit the original Model 99 magazine and a rather stumpy neck, the cartridge is capable of propelling a 150-grain bullet at over 2,600 ft/s. Loaded with a 150 grain bullet and heavier, the .300 is capable of producing clean killing on light to medium weight game out to 300 yards. Bullet choice has a noticeable effect on terminal performance and generally speaking, soft jacketed bullets produce the fastest kills on light or lean bodied game.

    In 1944 the US military used the .300 Savage as a base for assault cartridge research and design, eventually resulting in the  T-65 cartridge which we know today as the .308 Winchester (1952) and the 7.62 NATO (1954).

    Since its introduction in 2003, Barnes’ TSX Bullet has earned a reputation as “the perfect hunting bullet.” Now, Barnes has improved on perfection by adding a streamlined polymer tip. The new Tipped TSX features the same 100-percent copper body with multiple rings cut into the shank. It delivers the same gnat’s-eyelash accuracy and “dead right there” performance—but with an added polymer tip that boosts BC and improves long-range ballistics. The tip and a re-engineered nose cavity provide even faster expansion.     The Bullet

    Partition Bullets feature a fully tapered jacket that ruptures instantly at the thin jacket mouth, yet the gradual thickening along the bullet’s axis controls expansion and curls the jacket uniformly outward at high or low velocities. Nosler’s integral Partition supports the expanded mushroom and retains the rear lead alloy core. The enclosed rear core retains more than half the original bullet weight for deep penetration. The special crimp locks in the rear core section, adding strength to resist deformation under the pressure of heavy magnums.This makes this round no match for Deer, Sheep, Pronghorn and Black Bear and other medium-sized game.
