  • 6.5 Weatherby RPM 127 grain Barnes LRX (Lead Free)- The 6.5 WBY RPM is based on a lengthened version of the existing 284 Winchester. This cartridge has a rebated rim, making it compatible with standard 30-06 bolt faces and reloading equipment. However, the large body diameter, low body taper, and 35-degree shoulder mean that case capacity is greatly increased, leading to higher velocities. In addition, bullet innovation in the 6.5mm category is highly efficient with less drop and wind deflection than many heavier calibers. All these details culminate into a cartridge that delivers 1,500-foot pounds of energy at 500 yards capable of ethically taking big game animals across the globe.

Joseph von Benedikt of Shooting Times, writes: The all-new 6.5 Weatherby Rebated Precision Magnum (WBY RPM) cartridge is a vast departure from classic Weatherby design. The 6.5 WBY RPM has no belt, no double-radius shoulder, and no freebore. It’s still a hotrod, but that’s about all it has in common with its traditional belted-magnum, Venturi-shouldered, generously freebored ancestors.

The cartridge has a steep, 35.25-degree shoulder, nearly parallel sides, and a rebated rim. For those of you familiar with the 6.5-284 Norma, imagine a stretched-out version that makes the most of a long rifle action, provides magnum 6.5mm ballistics, and is compatible with a standard 0.473-inch-diameter (.30-06 size) boltface.

So, what inspired this dramatic departure from traditional Weatherby engineering? The 6.5 WBY RPM cartridge was designed for a new, sub-five-pound mountain rifle built on a titanium version of the company’s slender six-lug Mark V action. Titanium is another first for Weatherby. There are only a couple of centerfire rifle actions in existence that are this slender, and before the 6.5 WBY RPM, no magnum cartridge fit and functioned in any of them because the boltfaces of petite actions are not big enough in diameter to handle traditional magnum cartridge case heads. Thus, the rebated rim of the 6.5 WBY RPM.

Accuracy, consistency and dependability are crucial at that final moments of your hunt. Choice Ammunition takes this responsibility seriously by meticulously weighing each powder charge with our proprietary formulas and temperature insensitive powders, seating the bullet at the exact length for optimal performance and test firing each and every lot of ammunition at an average of 500% over industry average. We have no high speed production machines- only passionate and dedicated load technicians pulling each and every handle, producing one round of ammunition at a time.

    The Bullet-

The Long-Range X Bullet (LRX) line is designed after the best-selling Tipped Triple-Shock X Bullet, the LRX bullet design increases Ballistic Coefficient values by increasing ogive and boat tail lengths to improve the bullets’ long-range ballistic performance. For the hunter who is confident in long-range hunting, the LRX will fill the niche of this new hunting craze. LRX bullets will continue to be manufactured with the proven 100-percent copper, lead-free bodies. The bullet’s polymer tip initiates expansion, causing the nose cavity to open instantly on contact doubling the bullet’s original diameter while creating four cutting petals that wreak extensive internal damage. Exceptional performance means clean, quick kill.

    The Bullet:

    100-PERCENT COPPER BODY

Since its introduction in 2003, Barnes’ TSX Bullet has earned a reputation as “the perfect hunting bullet.” This lead-free, 100% copper-constructed bullet provides extreme penetration every time. Typically, this premium hunting bullet retains 100% of its original weight even after smashing through dense tissue and heavy bone. The Triple – Shock bullet design incorporates a series of precisely positioned rings cut into the bullet’s body. These grooves relieve firing pressure, allowing the TSX to be safely loaded to higher velocities while reducing copper fouling. The bonus is that this is one of the most accurate hunting bullets you can buy.

    The Bullet

The Berger VLD Hunting bullet line features Very Low Drag (VLD) bullets that have the highest possible ballistic coefficient designed for 300 yards or more, the design incorporates a sharp nose that allows the bullet to penetrate 2″ to 3″ before it starts to expand. After the initial expansion, the bullet will shed between 40% and 85% of its weight as shrapnel into the surrounding tissue (internal organs). The combination between the shrapnel and the hydrostatic shock produces a massive wound cavity within the vital area that will be 13″ – 15″ long. This massive wound cavity results in the animal dropping fast since most go into shock after such a tremendous blow. Those animals that don’t go down immediately will soon succumb to blood pressure loss and/or organ failure producing a quick ethical kill.

    The Bullet-

The Heat Shield tip of the Hornady ELD-X bullet defies the effects of aerodynamic heating and retains its shape to provide a perfect meplat (tip) that is always the same shape. A streamlined secant ogive with optimum boattail design, plus the highly concentric AMP bullet jackets, combined with the patent pending Heat Shield tip creates a supremely accurate, high BC match bullet. ELD-Match bullet BCs are measured with Doppler radar and corrected to standard atmospheric conditions. With high velocity, 0-400 yard impact, the bullet continually expands throughout its penetration path. The thick shank of the jacket and high Interlock ring keep the core and jacket together providing 50-60% weight retention. Upon low velocity, 400+ yard impacts, the Heat Shield tip drives backward into the bullet to initiate expansion. Exhibiting conventional expansion with a large mushroom and 85-90% retained weight the bullet provides deep penetration and large wound cavities.
