.338 Winchester Magnum 225 Grain Barnes TSX– The .338 Winchester Magnum is a .338 caliber, belted, rimless, bottlenecked cartridge introduced in 1958 by Winchester Repeating Arms. It is based on the blown-out, shortened .375 H&H Magnum. The .338 in is the caliber at which medium-bore cartridges are considered to begin. The .338 Winchester Magnum is the first choice among professional brown bear (specifically grizzly bear) guides in Alaska to back up clients where a powerful stopping caliber is required on charging bears. It is also the most popular medium-bore cartridge in North America and has the most widely available choice in rifles among medium bore rifles. The action length is the same as a .30-06 and most major rifle manufacturers in the United States chamber rifles for the cartridge including the semi-automatic Browning BAR Mk II Safari, making it a very powerful combination against charging dangerous game.

The .338 Winchester Magnum traces its heritage to the experiments conducted by Charles O’Neil, Elmer Keith and Don Hopkins with cartridges firing .333 bullets in the late 1940s.

Choice Ammunition has introduced the .338 Winchester Magnum in the 285 grain Barnes TSX with the same 100% hand-loading techniques as our other calibers. Our loading techniques and extremely tight tolerances are only matched by passionate hand-loaders in their own loading rooms. Our consistencies box to box and lot to lot, are created by continuous testing at the range- adjusting varied powder and brass lot formulas to match exact velocities and points of impact as the last time we loaded this caliber. Exact seating depths and our proprietary load formulas produce a round of ammunition you can count on for accuracy and dependability each and every time- and at that critical moment in the field when it all comes down to the shot!

The Bullet:

Since its introduction in 2003, Barnes’ TSX Bullet has earned a reputation as “the perfect hunting bullet.” Now, Barnes has improved on perfection by adding a streamlined polymer tip. The new Tipped TSX features the same 100-percent copper body with multiple rings cut into the shank. It delivers the same gnat’s-eyelash accuracy and “dead right there” performance—but with an added polymer tip that boosts BC and improves long-range ballistics. The tip and a re-engineered nose cavity provide even faster expansion. Complete penetration, virtually 100-percent weight retention and four razor-sharp cutting petals that double bullet diameter means the new Tipped TSX creates more internal damage than any competing bullet. Instant expansion and perfect penetration ensures cleaner, quicker kills.

Through a proprietary bonding process that eliminates voids in the bullet core, AccuBond marries Nosler’s traditional copper-alloy jacket with its special lead-alloy core. The result is a bullet that flies true, penetrates deep, won’t cause extensive barrel fouling, and will retain 60-70% of its weight. The white polymer tip helps protect against deformation while initiating expansion upon impact.

Thank you for visiting Choice Ammunition!Home of Premium Ammunition- 100% Hand-Loaded in Western Montana.

As you may know, the ammunition and firearms industry is experiencing unprecedented times beginning with COVID 19 coming from China in early 2020. Some talked of defunding police departments about the same time, even as riots and lawlessness raged on in our cities with unrest. We then saw a very contentious presidential campaign and ultimately- an inauguration of what could be a very unfriendly 2nd Amendment administration controlling both houses of Congress. For these reasons and more, we see demand at all time highs in the industry, in addition to mass shortages of components. I personally do not see things changing any time soon either...

With this, we are doing everything possible to hand-load and get products shipped in a timely manner, but we cannot simply turn machines up like others! Any back-orders on this website that we allow, we feel will ship in a reasonable period of time and we are averaging about 2-3 weeks presently. However, we are reliant on our suppliers to deliver components to us also, and that can unexpectedly be delayed on occasion. When this happens, it is possible to see 30-60 days, and sometimes more- to get ammunition sent out to you. Please know, all backorders will be filled at the price you purchased the ammunition for. If you find something elsewhere- we are happy to cancel any order.

We try to answer all office calls and prefer calls over emails or social media. We ask you to please refrain from calling or changing your order unless it is absolutely necessary- keeping in mind the time-frames I mentioned above. Every call we answer removes the focus on sourcing components and loading/shipping your ammunition!  We promise to get your order out as soon as we possibly can- yet, ask that you please understand this crazy market we are all in- if indeed you are delayed!

We do not believe in price gouging or increasing margins in a market such as this- and we will do everything possible to remain competitive with “factory” ammo, while providing our premium hand-loaded ammunition to the market. It does appear that prices may increase this year however, as there is much volatility in pricing for our brass, bullets, powder and primers.

Thank you for considering Choice Ammunition if you are a new customer- and thank you for another order if you are returning. We truly appreciate all of you and have built our business from going the extra mile with our products and for our customers!
