Description
.300 Winchester Magnum 210 Grain Berger VLD-Hunting~Ā TheĀ .300 Winchester MagnumĀ (also known asĀ .300 Win MagĀ orĀ 300WM) (7.62Ć67mm) is aĀ belted, bottlenecked magnum rifleĀ cartridgeĀ that was introduced by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1963. The .300 Winchester Magnum is a magnum cartridge designed to fit in a standard rifle action. It is based on the .375 H&H Magnum, which has been blown out, shortened, and necked down to accept a .30 caliber (7.62Ā mm) bullet.Ā
The .300 Winchester is extremely versatile and has been adopted by a wide range of users including hunters, target shooters, military units, and law enforcement departments. Hunters found the cartridge to be an effective all-around choice with bullet options ranging from the flatter shooting 165 grain to the harder hitting 200+ grain selections available from the factory. The .300 Win Mag remains the most popular .30 caliber magnum with American hunters, despite being surpassed in performance by the more powerfulĀ .300Ā andĀ .30-378 Weatherby MagnumsĀ and the newerĀ .300 Remington Ultra Magnum.Ā It is a popular selection for huntingĀ moose,Ā elk, and bighorn sheep as it can deliver better long range performance with better bullet weight than most other .30 caliber cartridges. Military andĀ law enforcementĀ departments adopted the cartridge for long range sniping and marksmanship. As a testament to its accuracy, since its introduction it has gone on to win several 1,000-yard (910Ā m) competitions.

The Bullet-
The Berger VLDĀ design incorporates a sharp nose that allows the bullet to penetrate 2ā³ to 3ā³ before it starts to expand. After the initial expansion, the bullet will shed between 40% and 85% of its weight as shrapnel into the surrounding tissue (internal organs). The combination between the shrapnel and the hydrostatic shock produces a massive wound cavity within the vital area that will be 13ā³ ā 15ā³ long. This massive wound cavity results in the animal dropping fast since most go into shock after such a tremendous blow. Those animals that donāt go down immediately will soon succumb to blood pressure loss and/or organ failure producing a quick ethical kill.
