7mm Weatherby Magnum 140 Grain Berger VLD-H- The 7mm Remington Magnum was developed among the first line of Weatherby cartridges back in the early 1940s by Roy Weatherby. As other Weatherby Magnum cartridges, the 7mm Wby Mag design is based on the .300 Holland & Holland Magnum case, necked down to .284 caliber, featuring a double radious neck and a straight taper, shortened to be feed from a standard length action, as the .257 Wby Mag and the .270 Wby Mag do.
The 7mm Weatherby Magnum did not get a lot of exposure until the early part of the 1950s when the Weatherby rifles became more available. The more popular 7mm Remington Magnum, introduced in 1962, has similar ballistics when compared to the 7mm Weatherby. However, being introduced 18 years earlier, the .7mm Weatherby Magnum, due to the case design, delivers a slight edge over the more popular 7mm Rem Mag in terms of ballistics. The Bullet-
The Berger VLD design incorporates a sharp nose that allows the bullet to penetrate 2″ to 3″ before it starts to expand. After the initial expansion, the bullet will shed between 40% and 85% of its weight as shrapnel into the surrounding tissue (internal organs). The combination between the shrapnel and the hydrostatic shock produces a massive wound cavity within the vital area that will be 13″ – 15″ long. This massive wound cavity results in the animal dropping fast since most go into shock after such a tremendous blow. Those animals that don’t go down immediately will soon succumb to blood pressure loss and/or organ failure producing a quick ethical kill.

Through an exclusive bonding process that eliminates voids in the bullet core, AccuBond couples Nosler’s proven copper-alloy jacket with its special lead-alloy core. The result is a bullet that flies true, penetrates deep and retains its weight, without causing extensive barrel fouling. The unique white polymer tip resists deforming and initiates expansion on impact. Nosler’s Solid Base at the rear of the bullet acts as a platform for large diameter mushrooms.

The Bullet–
The Heat Shield tip of the Hornady ELD-X bullet defies the effects of aerodynamic heating and retains its shape to provide a perfect meplat (tip) that is always the same shape. A streamlined secant ogive with optimum boattail design, plus the highly concentric AMP bullet jackets, combined with the patent pending Heat Shield tip creates a supremely accurate, high BC match bullet. ELD-Match bullet BCs are measured with Doppler radar and corrected to standard atmospheric conditions. With high velocity, 0-400 yard impact, the bullet continually expands throughout its penetration path. The thick shank of the jacket and high Interlock ring keep the core and jacket together providing 50-60% weight retention. Upon low velocity, 400+ yard impacts, the Heat Shield tip drives backward into the bullet to initiate expansion. Exhibiting conventional expansion with a large mushroom and 85-90% retained weight the bullet provides deep penetration and large wound cavities.
