Description
.300 Weatherby Magnum 210 grain Berger VLD-Hunting~Ā Roy Weatherby already had experience with other custom cartridges such as his ownĀ .270 Weatherby MagnumĀ when he created the .300 Weatherby. Like most of his other magnum cartridges, this is based on a blown-outĀ .300 H&H MagnumĀ case, using the signature Weatherby double-radius shoulder.
It is often debated which came first theĀ 300 Winchester MagnumĀ or the 300 Weatherby Magnum, the Weatherby was first 1944 vs the Winchester was introduced in 1963.Ā With theĀ .300 Remington Ultra MagnumĀ being introduced in 1999.Ā Historically, Weatherby claimed that this is the most powerful .30 caliber magnum rifle commercially available, but the recently introducedĀ .300 RUMĀ and Weatherbyās ownĀ .30-378 Weatherby MagnumĀ are now more powerful.Ā One could say, the .300 Weatherby was 50 years ahead of its time as it has only been recently that suitable optics and range finders for long range hunting have been available to the public at affordable prices.
The .300 Wby is in common use byĀ big-game huntersĀ all over the world.

The Bullet
The Berger VLDĀ Hunting bullet line features Very Low Drag (VLD) bullets that have the highest possible ballistic coefficient designed for 300 yards or more, the design incorporates a sharp nose that allows the bullet to penetrate 2ā³ to 3ā³ before it starts to expand. After the initial expansion, the bullet will shed between 40% and 85% of its weight as shrapnel into the surrounding tissue (internal organs). The combination between the shrapnel and the hydrostatic shock produces a massive wound cavity within the vital area that will be 13ā³ ā 15ā³ long. This massive wound cavity results in the animal dropping fast since most go into shock after such a tremendous blow. Those animals that donāt go down immediately will soon succumb to blood pressure loss and/or organ failure producing a quick ethical kill.
