It was designed specifically for long-range target shooting, although it is also achieving success in game hunting. Bullet for bullet, the 6.5mm Creedmoor achieves a slower muzzle velocity than longer cartridges such as the 6.5-284 Norma or magnum cartridges such as the 6.5mm Remington Magnum. However, due to its 2.825 inches (71.8 mm) overall length, it is capable of being chambered in short-action bolt-action rifles and AR-10 semi-automatic rifles.
Long-range shooter Ray âRayDogâ Sanchez summarized the bolt-action Tubb 2000 rifle in 6.5mm Creedmoor as âboringly accurateâ at 1,000 yards (910 m). He asserted the rifle and ammunition combination he used was able to maintain sub-MOA groups at 1000 yards.

The Berger VLDÂ Hunting bullet line features Very Low Drag (VLD) bullets that have the highest possible ballistic coefficient designed for 300 yards or more, the design incorporates a sharp nose that allows the bullet to penetrate 2âł to 3âł before it starts to expand. After the initial expansion, the bullet will shed between 40% and 85% of its weight as shrapnel into the surrounding tissue (internal organs). The combination between the shrapnel and the hydrostatic shock produces a massive wound cavity within the vital area that will be 13âł â 15âł long. This massive wound cavity results in the animal dropping fast since most go into shock after such a tremendous blow. Those animals that donât go down immediately will soon succumb to blood pressure loss and/or organ failure producing a quick ethical kill.

The .243 Winchester (6Ă52mm) is a popular sporting rifle cartridge. Initially designed as a target/varmint round, it may be used for animals such as coyotes, blacktail deer, whitetail deer, mule deer, pronghorns, and wild hogs. It can also be used against larger animals such as black bears and elk but is sometimes said to be âtoo lightâ for such large animals. Rounds of at least 90 grains are better suited for hunting larger animals while rounds less than 90 grains are more suitable for varmints. The .243 is based on a necked down .308 cartridge case. It is very popular with target shooters, metallic silhouette, and long range shooters, because of its accuracy and low recoil. This cartridge was first introduced in 1955 for the Winchester Model 70 bolt-action and Model 88 lever-action sporting rifles and quickly gained popularity among sportsmen worldwide. Just about every major manufacturer offers rifles chambered in .243.

Over a century after Scandinavia discovered the merits of 6.5mm projectiles, the United States has finally caught on. And just perhaps, the 6.5mm Precision Rifle Cartridge (6.5 PRC) is the finest all-around one. Â The 6.5 PRC is a short–action magnum cartridge that pairs the exceptional aerodynamics of 0.264-inch-diameter projectiles with an efficient not-quite-overbored powder chamber. The parent case is the .375 Rugerâalso basically a .300 RCM necked down to 6.5 mm. In other words, it’s a factory-produced, SAAMI-approved ballistic twin to the 6.5 SAUM and similar wildcats. Formally adopted by the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturersâ Institute (SAAMI) at its June 2018 meeting, we are thrilled to introduce our hand-loads for this caliber now! Elmer Keith, one of the most famous and popular firearms related authors at the time, developed a number of classical heavy handloads for the .44 Special; many are still highly regarded today. He also championed the concept of higher powered big-bore revolvers with Smith & Wesson and Remington Arms, eventually leading to the development of the .357, .41, and .44 Magnums. Keithâs suggested designation for the proposed .44 caliber round was the â.44 Special Magnum,â but when Remington Arms developed the cartridge they chose to name it the .44 Remington Magnum. Nonetheless, the new cartridge was developed directly from the .44 Special design by simply lengthening the older case by .125 inch. Remingtonâs stated rationale for the making of this change was to preclude higher pressured Magnum loads from being chambered in .44 Special revolvers
Recently the .44 Special has experienced something of a resurgence, as many firearms enthusiasts have realized that the heavily recoiling Magnum round is really âtoo much pistolâ for many applications, and the heavier and more bulky revolvers in which it is chambered are not as convenient to carry. Another key factor fueling the Specialâs comeback is its ability to fit in the longer chambers of the aforementioned .44 Magnum revolvers, much like the .38 special fits in the longer chambers of the .357 Magnum. This makes the .44 Special cartridge an attractive alternative for reduced velocity target shooting and plinking. The recent popularity of Cowboy Action shooting has also helped pique interest in the .44 Special, motivating manufacturers to offer modern and reproduction firearms chambered for this classic cartridge. Welcome to the “Hottest Game” around, SASS Wild Bunch Action Shooting. Undeniably, Wild Bunch Action Shooting shares similarities to SASS Cowboy Action Shooting. However, there are some notable differences. The sport uses 1911 Pistols in .45 acp, Lever Action Rifles chambered for pistol caliber of .40 and above, and model 1897 12ga. Pump Shotguns. Sanctioned matches are designed specifically to provide stage scenarios which incorporate down range as well as lateral movement, more pistol and shotgun rounds fired per stage and a variety of reactive targets such as plate racks, dueling trees, moving targets and rifle/pistol knockdown targets as well.
