Description
.300 H&H Magnum 180 grain Nosler Partition-Ā TheĀ .300 H&H Magnum CartridgeĀ was introduced by the British companyĀ Holland & HollandĀ as theĀ Super-ThirtyĀ in June, 1925.Ā The case was belted like theĀ .375 H&H Magnum, and is based on the same case, as also is theĀ .244 H&H Magnum. The belt is forĀ headspaceĀ as the casesā shoulders have a narrow slope rather than an actual shoulder. More modern magnums continue this practice, but headspacing on the belt is not necessary with their more sharply angled shoulders. The cartridge was used by American shooter Ben Comfort to win the 1000-yard Wimbledon Cup Match at Camp Perry in 1935,Ā and it was used again to win the international 1,000 yard competition in 1937.Ā WinchesterĀ chambered theĀ Model 70Ā in .300Ā Holland & HollandĀ Magnum in 1937.
The cartridge offered superiorĀ ballisticsĀ to theĀ .30-06Ā for long range, and the .300 H&H is almost as versatile with all bullet weights and types, especially if well-developedĀ handloadsĀ are used. It excels with the heaviest .30-calibre bullets in the 180ā220-grain range.
It has never been as popular as the .30-06; but the mystique of well-crafted rifles chambered for the .300 H&H keeps the cartridge in use despite its repeatedly reported demise. The .300 H&H is a fine AfricanĀ plains gameĀ cartridge, and suitable for all but the most dangerous big game.

The Bullet
Partition Bullets feature a fully tapered jacket that ruptures instantly at the thin jacket mouth, yet the gradual thickening along the bulletās axis controls expansion and curls the jacket uniformly outward at high or low velocities. Noslerās integral Partition supports the expanded mushroom and retains the rear lead alloy core. The enclosed rear core retains more than half the original bullet weight for deep penetration. The special crimp locks in the rear core section, adding strength to resist deformation under the pressure of heavy magnums. This makes this round no match for Deer, Sheep, Pronghorn and Black Bear and other medium-sized game.
