Description
6.5-284 Norma in a 150 grain Nosler AccuBond Long Range (ABLR)-
The 6.5-284 Norma is a highly respected cartridge with roots in both competitive shooting and practical hunting. Originally based on the .284 Winchester case, the cartridge gained prominence in the 1990s when Norma standardized it, refining dimensions and brass quality to meet the demands of precision shooters. Its combination of high velocity, efficient powder capacity, and excellent bullet selection quickly made it a standout in long-range disciplines.
The 6.5-284 rose to fame in 1,000-yard benchrest and F-Class competition, where it earned a reputation for outstanding accuracy and wind-defying performance. Its ability to launch high-BC 6.5mm bullets at impressive speeds allows shooters to maintain flat trajectories and superior downrange consistency, even in challenging conditions. For many years, it dominated long-range competition before newer cartridges emerged.
Beyond the range, the 6.5-284 Norma has proven to be an effective and versatile hunting cartridge. With proper bullet selection, it is well suited for deer, antelope, mountain game, and elk, offering tremendous accuracy and manageable recoil. Today, it remains a favorite among experienced shooters who value precision, efficiency, and proven performance, bridging the worlds of competitive accuracy and real-world hunting effectiveness.
Choice Ammunition’s 6.5-284 Norma load featuring the 150-grain Nosler AccuBond Long Range (ABLR) takes an already exceptional bullet and elevates it through precision hand-loading and exhaustive testing. Each load is developed with careful attention to pressure, velocity, and accuracy, ensuring the ABLR performs exactly as intended at extended distances. Powder charges are individually measured, components are lot-matched, and every production run is continuously monitored to maintain consistency. This meticulous process maximizes the bullet’s high ballistic coefficient, minimizes velocity spread, and delivers predictable expansion and deep penetration on game. The result is a 6.5-284 Norma round that fully exploits the ABLR’s long-range capabilities, providing hunters and precision shooters with unmatched confidence, repeatability, and real-world performance where factory ammunition often falls short.
The Bullet:
The AccuBond Long Range (LR) bullet line was developed in response to the escalating demand from long-range hunters who were asking for a hunting bullet that could keep up with today’s level of high-grade optics and ultra-high velocity cartridges in order to stretch practical shooting yardages past 1,000 yards; yet still perform on big-game animals. In order to accommodate these extreme parameters, the AccuBond-LR bullet was designed to have a minimum impact velocity of 1300fps in order to reliably expand or mushroom at those much longer distances, compared to the 1800fps minimum impact velocity of all other Nosler® hunting bullets.
