7mm PRC 168 Grain Barnes LRX (Lead Free)- Touted as being “a 21st Century 7mm magnum,” the PRC is based on a necked-down and shortened 300 PRC case, which in turn is a necked-down 375 Ruger. Whereas the .300 PRC requires a magnum-length action capable of handling cartridges of 3.70 inches COL (Cartridge Overall Length), the new 7mm version will fit a standard .30-06-length action (3.340 inches COL). As Joseph von Benedikt writes in Petersen’s Hunting: Ever since the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI) published the specs for Hornady’s new 7mm PRC cartridge a few months back, the Internet has been buzzing with speculation. Now that the cartridge has officially launched, it’s time to quell the rumors, answer the questions, bust the myths, and provide the facts.

Much as it pains me to admit it, the 7mm PRC does just about everything better. I’ve been shooting, handloading for, and hunting with it for more than a half a year now, and I’m sold on it. Let’s take a look at just what the 7mm PRC is and does. Fundamentally, it’s a standard-length cartridge that fits into .30-06-length actions. However, the 7mm PRC’s case is not belted, so it’s bigger in diameter than the classic “Seven Mag.” and holds plenty of gunpowder.

Another critical piece to the 7mm PRC puzzle is fast-twist rifling. It’s spec’d with a rate of 1 turn every 8 inches. Enabling it to stabilize super long, aerodynamic bullets in every atmospheric condition on the planet. Recoil is zesty in light rifles without muzzle brakes, but not intolerable. With a muzzle brake or—better yet—suppressor mounted, it’s mild. Although it will never completely replace the grand old 7mm Rem. Mag., and may never overshadow the super-popular 28 Nosler, the 7mm PRC is in my opinion (and on paper) the best 7mm magnum hunting cartridge ever designed. It’s efficient. It’s ultimately compatible with the best extreme-range projectiles on the market, and as a result has unprecedented long-range reach. It’s inherently accurate—obscenely so. It pounds big-bodied game with authority. It’s the ultimate turn-key solution for performance-minded open-country hunters.

Choice Ammunition loads the 7MM PRC with the same 100% hand-loading techniques as our other calibers. Our loading techniques and extremely tight tolerances are only matched by passionate hand-loaders in their own loading rooms. Our consistencies box to box and lot to lot, are created by continuous testing at the range- adjusting varied powder and brass lot formulas to match exact velocities and points of impact as the last time we loaded this caliber. Exact seating depths and our proprietary load formulas produce a round of ammunition you can count on for accuracy and dependability each and every time- and at that critical moment in the field when it all comes down to the shot!

The Bullet-

The Long-Range X Bullet (LRX) line is designed after the best-selling Tipped Triple-Shock X Bullet, the LRX bullet design increases Ballistic Coefficient values by increasing ogive and boat tail lengths to improve the bullets’ long-range ballistic performance. For the hunter who is confident in long-range hunting, the LRX will fill the niche of this new hunting craze. LRX bullets will continue to be manufactured with the proven 100-percent copper, lead-free bodies. The bullet’s polymer tip initiates expansion, causing the nose cavity to open instantly on contact doubling the bullet’s original diameter while creating four cutting petals that wreak extensive internal damage. Exceptional performance means clean, quick kill.

We had some slight sizing die scratches on this round as we hand loaded them, and you may see them on the brass. With the shortage and anticipation for us to release this caliber- we decided to go ahead and place these online. These scratches have no impact on performance or consistency and we are sorry for the issue.
