.270 Weatherby Magnum 130 Grain Berger VLD-H– The .270 Weatherby Magnum was the first belted magnum based on the .300 H&H Magnum to be developed by Roy Weatherby in 1943. The cartridge is short enough to function in standard-length long actions with a brass length of 2.549″ or 64.74mm and an overall length of about 3.295″. It has the characteristic double-radius shoulders and is necked down to accommodate the .277 in bullets. Like most Weatherby cartridges, the .270 Weatherby was standardized by the Small Arms and Ammunitions Manufacturers Institute in 1994, and it has a SAAMI maximum pressure limit of 62,500 psi. The first Weatherby cartridge to be used in Africa was the .270 Weatherby on a jackal on June 8, 1948.
Given its higher pressure and larger case which holds more powder than the .270 Winchester, the .270 Weatherby has about 200 ft/s faster performance with any particular bullet weight. This performance comes at the cost of more recoil and barrel heat. In addition, a long barrel is necessary to take advantage of extra powder to gain maximum velocity. The .270 Weatherby is absolutely ideal for light to medium weight game. On larger animals such as Elk, bullet choice has a huge effect on results.
Choice Ammunition has taken our 100% hand-loading techniques and produce an extremely accurate, highly dependable round for the .270 Weatherby Magnum in this load. Our loading tolerances are only matched by passionate hand-loaders in their own loading rooms. Consistent seating depths, powder charges and proprietary formulas of Choice Ammunition, make this 130 Berger VLD-Hunting round the best you can buy on the commercial market today.
The Bullet-
The Berger VLD design incorporates a sharp nose that allows the bullet to penetrate 2″ to 3″ before it starts to expand. After the initial expansion, the bullet will shed between 40% and 85% of its weight as shrapnel into the surrounding tissue (internal organs). The combination between the shrapnel and the hydrostatic shock produces a massive wound cavity within the vital area that will be 13″ – 15″ long. This massive wound cavity results in the animal dropping fast since most go into shock after such a tremendous blow. Those animals that don’t go down immediately will soon succumb to blood pressure loss and/or organ failure producing a quick ethical kill.

In these challenging times in our industry, things change quickly. One day, we are well stocked up on an item, and the next day, we could be out. We are doing everything possible to hand-load our ammunition and get products shipped in a timely manner, but we cannot simply turn machines up like the “factories” do! Yet, we are resourceful in our ways- and usually have ammunition when others do not.
We also strive to provide tremendous customer service. We try to answer all office calls- and actually prefer calls over emails or social media. After your order, our in-stock items typically ship within 24 hours!
From time to time- we do offer industry updates, special promotions, or announcements of new products. If you care to register with us below, we will be sure to include you in these email updates. (We do not share our list with others- or inundate you with emails all the time).
Thank you for considering Choice Ammunition if you are a new customer- and thank you for another order if you are returning with us again! We truly appreciate all of you, and value each and every order that is made with us.
