Description
6.5 Creedmoor 143 Hornady ELD-X~Ā TheĀ 6.5mm Creedmoor, designatedĀ 6.5 CreedmoorĀ byĀ SAAMI,Ā is aĀ centerfireĀ rifleĀ cartridgeĀ introduced in 2007Ā as a modification of theĀ .30 TC,Ā which was based on theĀ .308 Winchester. It was designed specifically forĀ long-range target shooting,Ā although it is also achieving success inĀ gameĀ hunting.Ā Bullet for bullet, the 6.5mm Creedmoor achieves a slowerĀ muzzle velocityĀ than longer cartridges such as theĀ 6.5-284 NormaĀ orĀ magnum cartridgesĀ such as theĀ 6.5mm Remington Magnum. However, due to its 2.825 inches (71.8Ā mm)Ā overall length, it is capable of being chambered in short-actionĀ bolt-action riflesĀ andĀ AR-10Ā semi-automatic rifles.
Long-range shooter Ray āRayDogā Sanchez summarized theĀ bolt-actionĀ Tubb 2000Ā rifle in 6.5mm Creedmoor as āboringly accurateā at 1,000 yards (910Ā m). He asserted the rifle and ammunition combination he used was able to maintain sub-MOA groups at 1000 yards.

The Bullet-
The Heat Shield tip of the Hornady ELD-X bullet defies the effects of aerodynamic heating and retains its shape to provide a perfect meplat (tip) that is always the same shape. A streamlined secant ogive with optimum boattail design, plus the highly concentric AMP bullet jackets, combined with the patent pending Heat Shield tip creates a supremely accurate, high BC match bullet. ELD-Match bullet BCs are measured with Doppler radar and corrected to standard atmospheric conditions. With high velocity, 0-400 yard impact, the bullet continually expands throughout its penetration path. The thick shank of the jacket and high Interlock ring keep the core and jacket together providing 50-60% weight retention. Upon low velocity, 400+ yard impacts, the Heat Shield tip drives backward into the bullet to initiate expansion. Exhibiting conventional expansion with a large mushroom and 85-90% retained weight the bullet provides deep penetration and large wound cavities.
