.257 Weatherby Magnum 115 Grain Berger VLD-Hunting~ The .257 Weatherby Magnum is a .257 Caliber (6.35 mm) belted bottlenecked cartridge. It is one of the original standard length magnums developed by shortening the .375 H&H Magnum case to approx. 2.5 in (64 mm). Of the cartridges developed by Roy Weatherby in 1944, the .257 Weatherby Magnum was known to have been his favorite, and the cartridge currently ranks third in Weatherby cartridge sales, after the .30-378 Weatherby Magnum and the .300 Weatherby Magnum.

The .257 Weatherby Magnum is among one of the flattest shooting commercial cartridges. The .257 Weatherby Magnum shares the same cartridge case as the .270 Weatherby Magnum and the 7mm Weatherby Magnum. The .30 Super Belted Rimless H&H manufactured by Winchester served as the direct parent cartridge for the case design. The .257 Weatherby Magnum was one of the first cartridges which used the shortened, blown out and necked down .375 H&H Magnum case and served as the forerunner to the standard length magnum cartridges such as the 7mm Remington Magnum and the .338 Winchester Magnum. There has been some speculation that Roy Weatherby may have used the full length .375 H&H Magnum case if he had slow burning powders available today when the cartridge was designed.

The Berger VLD design incorporates a sharp nose that allows the bullet to penetrate 2″ to 3″ before it starts to expand. After the initial expansion, the bullet will shed between 40% and 85% of its weight as shrapnel into the surrounding tissue (internal organs). The combination between the shrapnel and the hydrostatic shock produces a massive wound cavity within the vital area that will be 13″ – 15″ long. This massive wound cavity results in the animal dropping fast since most go into shock after such a tremendous blow. Those animals that don’t go down immediately will soon succumb to blood pressure loss and/or organ failure producing a quick ethical kill.

  • The Tipped Triple-Shock bullet delivers the same “three strikes you’re out” rule. Once as it strikes game, two as the bullet begins to open and a third impact when the cavity fully expands to deliver extra shock with maximum transferred energy. The added polymer tip creates a faster expansion rate as well as better long range ballistics. Ideal for deer-sized game.

    • Velocity 3075 fps

These high-performance rounds provide excellent reliability, consistency, accuracy and stopping power for hunting most game.

  • Partition Bullets feature a fully tapered jacket that ruptures instantly at the thin jacket mouth, yet the gradual thickening along the bullet’s axis controls expansion and curls the jacket uniformly outward at high or low velocities. This makes this round no match for Deer, Sheep, Pronghorn and Black Bear and other medium-sized game.

  • .300 Weatherby Magnum 180 grain Nosler AccuBond~ Roy Weatherby already had experience with other custom cartridges such as his own .270 Weatherby Magnum when he created the .300 Weatherby. Like most of his other magnum cartridges, this is based on a blown-out .300 H&H Magnum case, using the signature Weatherby double-radius shoulder.

It is often debated which came first the 300 Winchester Magnum or the 300 Weatherby Magnum, the Weatherby was first 1944 vs the Winchester was introduced in 1963. With the .300 Remington Ultra Magnum being introduced in 1999. Historically, Weatherby claimed that this is the most powerful .30 caliber magnum rifle commercially available, but the recently introduced .300 RUM and Weatherby’s own .30-378 Weatherby Magnum are now more powerful. One could say, the .300 Weatherby was 50 years ahead of its time as it has only been recently that suitable optics and range finders for long range hunting have been available to the public at affordable prices.

The .300 Wby is in common use by big-game hunters all over the world. Loaded with 180 grain bullets the Weatherby is an emphatic killer of larger bodied medium game out to generous ranges. The Weatherby places great stress on projectiles, demanding that bullet construction be matched to game weights in order to avoid erratic or unexpected disappointing results. On game weights of between 200-700 pounds, wound channels produced by appropriate 180gr bullets driven over 3000fps tend to be around 1.5 to 2” in diameter.

Through an exclusive bonding process that eliminates voids in the bullet core, AccuBond® couples Nosler’s proven copper-alloy jacket with its special lead-alloy core. The result is a bullet that flies true, penetrates deep and retains its weight, without causing extensive barrel fouling. The unique white polymer tip resists deforming and initiates expansion on impact. Nosler’s Solid Base at the rear of the bullet acts as a platform for large diameter mushrooms.
