  • .308 Winchester 125 Grain Nosler AccuBond~ The .308 Winchester is a rimless, bottlenecked  rifle cartridge and is the commercial cartridge from which the 7.62x51mm NATO round was derived. The .308 Winchester was introduced in 1952, two years prior to the NATO adoption of the 7.62×51mm NATO T65.  Winchester branded the cartridge and introduced it to the commercial hunting market as the .308 Winchester. Winchester’s Model 70, Model 100 and  Model 88 rifles were subsequently chambered for the new cartridge. The .308 Winchester is one of the most popular hunting cartridges in the United States, and possibly the world. It has gained popularity in many countries as an exceptional cartridge for game in the medium- to large-sized class. In North America it is used extensively on whitetail deer, pronghorn and even the occasional caribou or black bear.

Clay Harvey, an American gun writer, says it is usable on moose and elk. Layne Simpson, an American who has hunted in Sweden, says he is surprised how many hunters there use the cartridge. Craig Boddington was told by a Norma Precision executive that the .308 Winchester is one of Norma’s best-selling calibers. In Africa the .308 Winchester is one of the most popular calibers among Bushveld hunters and is used on anything from duiker right up to the massive eland (a small and large African antelope respectively). Proponents of the hydrostatic shock theory contend that the .308 Winchester has sufficient energy to impart hydrostatic shock to living targets when rapidly expanding bullets deliver a high rate of energy transfer.

While .308 Winchester has traditionally been the most popular cartridge in the past, the development of lighter recoil chamberings with sufficient downrange energy, like the 7mm-08 Remington, .260 Remington, and 6.5 Creedmoor, is becoming more common for metallic silhouette shooting.[

It is also used for target shooting, metallic silhouette, bench rest target shooting, palma, metal matches, military sniping, and police sharpshooting. The relatively short case makes the .308 Winchester especially well-adapted for short-action rifles.

Choice Ammunition has taken our 100% hand-loading techniques and produce an extremely accurate, highly dependable round for the .308 Winchester in this load. Our loading tolerances are only matched by passionate hand-loaders in their own loading rooms. The Bullet

Through an exclusive bonding process that eliminates voids in the bullet core, AccuBond couples Nosler’s proven copper-alloy jacket with its special lead-alloy core. The result is a bullet that flies true, penetrates deep and retains its weight, without causing extensive barrel fouling. The unique white polymer tip resists deforming and initiates expansion on impact. Nosler’s Solid Base at the rear of the bullet acts as a platform for large diameter mushrooms.

    The Bullet:

The Hornady SST (Super Shock Tip) is designed to deliver tremendous shock on impact while expanding quickly and reliably, particularly at higher velocities.

Super Shock Tip Bullets combine proven Hornady performance with a higher ballistic coefficient than available with most hunting bullets. The sharp, pointed polymer tip creates a faster, flatter shooting bullet. With its one-piece core and jacket strengthened in critical areas, the SST delivers much more controlled expansion and superior weight retention than other tipped bullets. Featuring Hornady’s trade mark Interlock ring system, this bullet’s core and jacket remain locked solid during expansion, creating massive wound channels.

    100-PERCENT COPPER BODY

Since its introduction in 2003, Barnes’ TSX Bullet has earned a reputation as “the perfect hunting bullet.” Now, Barnes has improved on perfection by adding a streamlined polymer tip. The new Tipped TSX features the same 100-percent copper body with multiple rings cut into the shank. It delivers the same gnat’s-eyelash accuracy and “dead right there” performance—but with an added polymer tip that boosts BC and improves long-range ballistics. The tip and a re-engineered nose cavity provide even faster expansion. Complete penetration, virtually 100-percent weight retention and four razor-sharp cutting petals that double bullet diameter means the new Tipped TSX creates more internal damage than any competing bullet. Instant expansion and perfect penetration ensures cleaner, quicker kills.

The Berger VLD design incorporates a sharp nose that allows the bullet to penetrate 2″ to 3″ before it starts to expand. After the initial expansion, the bullet will shed between 40% and 85% of its weight as shrapnel into the surrounding tissue (internal organs). The combination between the shrapnel and the hydrostatic shock produces a massive wound cavity within the vital area that will be 13″ – 15″ long. This massive wound cavity results in the animal dropping fast since most go into shock after such a tremendous blow. Those animals that don’t go down immediately will soon succumb to blood pressure loss and/or organ failure producing a quick ethical kill.

    The Bullet-

    LONG RANGE HUNTING

Barnes LRX bullets have been developed to match the advancements in rifle accuracy and extended-range optics. The LRX features a long profile and boattail design that delivers match-grade accuracy at long range with an incredibly high ballistic coefficient and terminal performance that delivers the quick, clean, ethical kills you’ve come to expect from Barnes.

The all-copper LRX (Long Range X Bullet) opens instantly on impact into four razor-sharp petals that plow a wide wound channel and deposit massive amounts of energy throughout the entire length of the cavity. High weight retention sustains bullet momentum for maximum destruction of tissue, bone and vital organs to effectively and humanely take down game at close and extreme distances.

    • Polymer tip boosts ballistic coefficient and initiates rapid expansion
    • Specially engineered scored nose cavity expands into four razor-sharp petals and a large frontal diameter for maximum energy transfer and deep penetration on game at close and extreme distances

Choice Ammunition Subsonic 300 AAC Blackout Ammo in the Hornady 175 Grain Sub-X Subsonic Flex Tip; This subsonic .308 ammo offers a muzzle velocity of 1035 feet per second. The patented Hornady Flex Tip Expanding (FTX) bullet features an interlocking design that keeps the core of the bullet and the jacket together creating a deeper penetrating, more humane kill. Not only that, they offer controlled expansion, enhanced accuracy and the delivery of flatter trajectories. Featuring a soft polymer flex tip, it’s tough enough to stand up to a jacketed bullet, but soft enough so it won’t dent the primer of the round in front of it or cause accidental firing in a lever gun. Developed with long grooves, this subsonic bullet includes gilding metal jacket with the addition of a bullet’s flat profile and the patented Flex Tip insert within its hollow-point cavity to help it expand reliably at low velocities.

Choice Ammunition has taken our 100% hand-loading techniques and produce an extremely accurate, highly dependable round for the .308 Winchester in this subsonic load. Our loading tolerances are only matched by passionate hand-loaders in their own loading rooms. Consistent seating depths, powder charges and proprietary formulas of Choice Ammunition, make this 175 grain Sub-X round the best you can buy on the commercial market today. The expansion and weight retention of this subsonic round is remarkable.

Designed to provide deep penetration below the speed of sound, Sub-X® features a lead core. The long grooves in its gilding metal jacket combine with its flat profile and the patented Flex Tip® insert within the bullet’s hollow-point cavity to help it expand reliably at low velocities. This round is ideal for hog hunting, deer hunting and predators.

    The Bullet:

Sierra MatchKing bullets have very thin jackets and are held to exacting tolerances in diameter and weight. These Hollow Point Boat Tail bullets have a small meplat to produce a higher ballistic coefficient. Their accuracy has been acclaimed worldwide and they have been used to win more target competitions than all target bullets from other manufacturers combined. The 30 Caliber 175 Grain MatchKing was developed along with military experts for use in the M21, M24 and M40A1 sniper systems. It then generated a large amount of interest by long range competitive shooters due to its high ballistic coefficient and ability to remain supersonic at 1000 yards out of a 308 Winchester.

The Heat Shield tip of the Hornady ELD-X bullet defies the effects of aerodynamic heating and retains its shape to provide a perfect meplat (tip) that is always the same shape. A streamlined secant ogive with optimum boattail design, plus the highly concentric AMP bullet jackets, combined with the patent pending Heat Shield tip creates a supremely accurate, high BC match bullet. ELD-Match bullet BCs are measured with Doppler radar and corrected to standard atmospheric conditions. With high velocity, 0-400 yard impact, the bullet continually expands throughout its penetration path. The thick shank of the jacket and high Interlock ring keep the core and jacket together providing 50-60% weight retention. Upon low velocity, 400+ yard impacts, the Heat Shield tip drives backward into the bullet to initiate expansion. Exhibiting conventional expansion with a large mushroom and 85-90% retained weight the bullet provides deep penetration and large wound cavities.

    The Bullet

Partition Bullets feature a fully tapered jacket that ruptures instantly at the thin jacket mouth, yet the gradual thickening along the bullet’s axis controls expansion and curls the jacket uniformly outward at high or low velocities. Nosler’s integral Partition supports the expanded mushroom and retains the rear lead alloy core. The enclosed rear core retains more than half the original bullet weight for deep penetration. The special crimp locks in the rear core section, adding strength to resist deformation under the pressure of heavy magnums. This makes this round no match for Deer, Sheep, Pronghorn and Black Bear and other medium-sized game.

    The Bullet-
