  • .224 Valkyrie 50 Grain TNT Hollow Point- The 224 Valkyrie cartridge is a rimless bottlenecked intermediate rifle cartridge that was developed by Federal Ammunition to rival the .22 Nosler while still running well in modern sporting rifles. Based on the 6.8 SPC case, shortened to 1.600-inch, the .224 Valkyrie uses a 30-degree shoulder for headspacing. The rimless case functions perfectly in the 6.8 SPC magazines for the AR-15 platform, and the overall cartridge length of 2.260 inches coincides with that magazine dimension.

In order to fill a need for a long range “small platform” Modern Sporting Rifle, the proven 6.8 SPC case is necked it down to utilize a .224 projectile. Prior to this, the ability to compete at long range (1000+ yards) was dominated in competition by the large frame MSR’s, primarily in .308 Winchester and 6.5mm Creedmoor. Looking to fill the gap between .22 caliber rounds and the ever popular 6.5 Creedmoor, the new .224 Valkyrie round pushes 1300 yards with flat trajectories and match-grade accuracy.

The Valkyrie sits comfortably between the .223 Remington and the 6mms in that they can happily do double duty on varmints and deer alike. The Valkyrie gives up a bit of bullet weight to the .243 Winchester, 6mm Remington and 6mm Creedmoor, yet it does make a good target gun. The lighter loads are smartly designed for the predator hunter; they’re sandwiched between .223 and .22-250 as far as performance goes, and that’s not a bad place to be. The caliber also has significantly reduced recoil compared to any other cartridge with similar ballistics.

Our 100% Hand-Loaded 50 grain TNT Hollow Point lead free rounds are loaded with extremely tight tolerances, producing highly accurate, consistent and reliable performance with each and every shot for the .224 Valkyrie! Our proprietary load formulas and loading process create the finest round of ammunition available on the commercial market today we feel.

    The Bullet:

Speer created its first bullet more than 70 years ago, and today, the company still manufactures superior components, such as Speer TNT Varmint Bullets. Specific to varmint shooting, these bullets are a cut above the rest.

TNT gives you what you want most-superior on-game performance. Starting with TNT’s thin precision jacket, Speer added internal fluting and a dead-soft lead core to ensure complete bullet disruption. Speer finishes the forming with a long ogive and a small hollow point. This gives you the ballistic coefficients needed for long shots. In fact, TNT’s coefficients rival those of similar boat tail bullets. In a little over ten years, TNT has become a best seller. Why? Great accuracy and impressive terminal performance. These TNT Bullets are explosive and accurate. TNT gives you what you want most—superior on-game performance. A thin precision jacket and internal fluting ensures complete bullet disruption. Because of its great accuracy and impressive terminal performance, TNT has become one of Speer Bullets’ hottest sellers.

    The Bullet

    100-PERCENT COPPER BODY

Since its introduction in 2003, Barnes’ TSX Bullet has earned a reputation as “the perfect hunting bullet.” Now, Barnes has improved on perfection by adding a streamlined polymer tip. The new Tipped TSX features the same 100-percent copper body with multiple rings cut into the shank. It delivers the same gnat’s-eyelash accuracy and “dead right there” performance—but with an added polymer tip that boosts BC and improves long-range ballistics. The tip and a re-engineered nose cavity provide even faster expansion. Complete penetration, virtually 100-percent weight retention and four razor-sharp cutting petals that double bullet diameter means the new Tipped TSX creates more internal damage than any competing bullet. Instant expansion and perfect penetration ensures cleaner, quicker kills.

    The Bullet:

Sierra has enhanced a segment of the MatchKing line by adding the acetal resin tip, thus crowning the Tipped MatchKing (TMK) bullet line. The major advantage of adding a tip to the bullet is the reduction of drag, producing a more favorable ballistic coefficient. Another benefit is reliable feeding in magazine fed firearms. The 77 grain Tipped MatchKing (TMK) allows seating to an OAL that permits cartridges to be loaded into M16/AR15 magazines.

While they are recognized around the world for record-setting accuracy, MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are not recommended for most hunting applications. Although MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are commonly used for varmint hunting, their design will not provide the same reliable explosive expansion at equivalent velocities in varmints compared to their lightly jacketed Hornet, Blitz or Varminter counterparts.
