.38 Special 125 Grain Black Hi-Tek Coated RNFP- The .38 Smith & Wesson Special is a rimmed, centerfire cartridge designed by Smith & Wesson. It is most commonly used in revolvers, although some semi-automatic pistols and carbines also use this round. The .38 Special was the standard service cartridge of most police departments in the United States from the 1920s to the 1990s, and was also a common sidearm cartridge used by soldiers in World War I. Known for its accuracy and manageable recoil, the .38 Special remains one of the most popular revolver cartridges in the world more than a century after its introduction. It is used for target shooting, formal target competition, personal defense, and for hunting small game.
The .38 Special was introduced in 1898 as an improvement over the .38 Long Colt which, as a military service cartridge, was found to have inadequate stopping power against the charges of Filipino Muslim warriors during the Philippine–American War. Upon its introduction, the .38 Special was originally loaded with black powder, but the cartridge’s popularity caused manufacturers to offer smokeless powder loadings within a year of its introduction.
Despite its name, the caliber of the .38 Special cartridge is actually .357 inches (36 caliber/9.07 mm), with the “.38” referring to the approximate diameter of the loaded brass case. Except for case length, the .38 Special is identical to the .38 Short Colt, .38 Long Colt, and .357 Magnum. This allows the .38 Special round to be safely fired in revolvers chambered for the .357 Magnum, and the .38 Long Colt in revolvers chambered for .38 Special, increasing the versatility of this cartridge. However, the longer and more powerful .357 Magnum cartridge will usually not chamber and fire in weapons rated specifically for .38 Special which are not designed for the greatly increased pressure of the magnum rounds.
Although only a few US police departments now issue or authorize use of the .38 Special revolver as a standard duty weapon, the caliber remains popular with some police officers for use in short-barreled revolvers carried when off-duty or for undercover police investigations. It is also widely used in revolvers purchased for civilian home defense or for concealed carry by individuals with a CCW permit.
With our 100% hand-loading techniques- We place the same care and passion into each and every round produced as those do in their own private loading rooms. These techniques produce the most reliable, accurate round of ammunition available on the market today!

38 Special 148 grain Hi-Tek Coated Wadcutter- Target shooters, here is a great round for you! Unlike a normal bullet that tapers down to a point, a wadcutter has an entirely flat front as wide as the cartridge. In other words, the round is completely cylindrical. Who would want to use such a bullet? Competitive shooters. Normal bullets make holes that can be tough to differentiate when you’re scoring a paper target that’s had a number of shots put through it. Wadcutters were designed to punch distinct circular holes in paper targets, making life a lot easier when determining who won a competitive shooting match.
With our 100% hand-loading techniques- We place the same care and passion into each and every round produced as those do in their own private loading rooms. These techniques produce the most reliable, accurate round of ammunition available on the market today!
The .38 Special was designed in 1898 to be a higher velocity round, with better penetration properties than the .38 Long Colt that was in Government Service in the Philippines during the Spanish–American War. The .38 Long Colt revolver round wouldn’t penetrate the insurgent Philippine Morro warrior shields, and the Government contracted the new revolver round to Smith & Wesson.
Except for case length, the .38 Special is identical to the .38 Short Colt, .38 Long Colt, and .357 Magnum. This allows the .38 Special round to be safely fired in revolvers chambered for the .357 Magnum, and the .38 Long Colt in revolvers chambered for .38 Special, increasing the versatility of this cartridge.

.380 Auto 100 grain plated Flat Base Round Nose~ Plated flat base bullets are designed for shooters who need increased velocity. The flat base provides more contact area with the powder to increase velocity. With the right ammunition, a .380 can produce effective results based on objective test data. Is it as versatile as a double-stack 9mm? No, but it’s also easier to carry, and that’s the limiting factor for many shooters. With the surge in concealed carry legislation in many of our nation’s states, smaller pistols chambered in the proven .380 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) caliber are becoming more popular with civilians and law enforcement.
The .380 ACP cartridge was developed by John Browning and introduced in 1908 by Colt, which chambered this round in small pocket pistols that quickly gained popularity in undercover police work. Many shooters have also chosen the .380, because of its pleasant recoil characteristics as compared with the 9mm Luger and its bigger cousins. The .380 can be snappy when shot out of a small-frame pistol and is still much more of a pleasure to shoot than its larger cousins.
While not the least expensive .380 ammunition on the market, our tight loading tolerances, visual inspection and premium performance sets our products apart from other import and “factory” loaded ammunition! For a few cents more, make every shot count!
We take every single round seriously. This is why even our inexpensive target rounds are 100% hand-loaded with the same reliability and consistency as our Big Game or Defense Ammunition. Our target ammunition also can be complemented with identically matched defense rounds through our “Range Time & Real Time” combo packs, where we offer the same velocity and more importantly- same point of impact with the range and defense ammo combo.
.44 Magnum 240 Grain Hi-Tek Coated SWC- The .44 Remington Magnum, or simply .44 Magnum (10.9×33mmR), and frequently .44 Mag, is a rimmed, large-bore cartridge originally designed for revolvers. After its introduction, it was quickly adopted for carbines and rifles. Despite the “.44” designation, guns chambered for the .44 Magnum round, and its parent, the .44 Special, use 0.429 in (10.9 mm) diameter bullets.
The .44 Magnum is based on a lengthened .44 Special case, loaded to higher pressures for greater velocity (and thus, energy). The .44 Magnum has since been eclipsed in power by the .454 Casull, and most recently by the .460 S&W Magnum and .500 S&W Magnum, among others; nevertheless, it has remained one of the most popular commercial large-bore magnum cartridges. When loaded to its maximum and with heavy, deeply penetrating bullets, the .44 Magnum cartridge is suitable for short-range hunting of all North American game—though at the cost of heavy recoil and muzzle flash when fired in handguns, less so in carbines and rifles.
Elmer Keith, one of the most famous and popular firearms related authors at the time, developed a number of classical heavy handloads for the .44 Special; many are still highly regarded today. He also championed the concept of higher powered big-bore revolvers with Smith & Wesson and Remington Arms, eventually leading to the development of the .357, .41, and .44 Magnums. Keith’s suggested designation for the proposed .44 caliber round was the “.44 Special Magnum,” but when Remington Arms developed the cartridge they chose to name it the .44 Remington Magnum. Nonetheless, the new cartridge was developed directly from the .44 Special design by simply lengthening the older case by .125 inch.

In these challenging times in our industry, things change quickly. One day, we are well stocked up on an item, and the next day, we could be out. We are doing everything possible to hand-load our ammunition and get products shipped in a timely manner, but we cannot simply turn machines up like the “factories” do! Yet, we are resourceful in our ways- and usually have ammunition when others do not.
We also strive to provide tremendous customer service. We try to answer all office calls- and actually prefer calls over emails or social media. After your order, our in-stock items typically ship within 24 hours!
From time to time- we do offer industry updates, special promotions, or announcements of new products. If you care to register with us below, we will be sure to include you in these email updates. (We do not share our list with others- or inundate you with emails all the time).
Thank you for considering Choice Ammunition if you are a new customer- and thank you for another order if you are returning with us again! We truly appreciate all of you, and value each and every order that is made with us.
